History

From Wool to Wine

Merv and Jan Smith welcome you to Adinfern Estate.

Continuing on the family tradition, we have farmed our Cowaramup property since 1972, primarily for fine wool and prime lamb production, with Merv contract shearing in the district for over twenty years. We pride ourselves with the fact that ours is a hands-on achievement from delivering newborn lambs to both of us working together in the shearing shed, or from ploughing and seeding paddocks to baling the hay in readiness for feeding out during the dry summer period.

1996 saw the property undergo major changes when we took cuttings of different varieties of grapes (on our lounge room floor while watching the Atlanta Olympics) and planted our first vines for wine production and where today there are 40 acres of vines in production, the varieties being Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Pinot Noir, Malbec and Chardonnay. The ultimate achievement of 'Wine in 99' was attained and you are invited to sip and enjoy the fruits of our labour.

We also offer vineyard accommodation in two self-contained, tastefully decorated rammed earth cottages - take a leisurely walk through the vineyard to the picturesque dam at the back of our property which bounds the Rails to Trails Bush Walk.

Adinfern Estate is centrally located to the Margaret River vineyard areas, beaches and caves and is just 10 minutes from Margaret River.

Whether it be to taste our premium wine or experience a peaceful few days in one of our cottages, we welcome your visit.
